PROJECT
SURYA
MAKING HEALTHCARE A HUMAN RIGHT AGAIN.
WE ARE PROJECT SURYA.
Project Surya is an internationally recognized, entirely youth-led non-profit organization based in India with a growing global presence. We are dedicated to empowering adolescents from underprivileged and remote communities who are diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (T1DM). Our mission is driven by a holistic three-pronged action plan focusing on awareness, advocacy, and funding.
Through this approach, we strive to create a world where every child with T1D has access to the knowledge, resources, and support needed to live a healthy and fulfilling life.

Global Health Burden of Diabetes
01
The International Diabetes Federation (IDF) estimated that in 2019, approximately 463 million
people were living with diabetes worldwide.
02
More than 1.3 billion people will have diabetes by 2050. In 2017 there were 9 million people
with type 1 diabetes, with 500,000 new cases every year.
03
Over 35,860 people died of type one diabetes in 2022 without receiving a diagnosis.
04
Almost 18% of a typical Indian middle-income family’s income is spent on T1D and
80% of them do not have access to government subsidies or medical insurance.
05
Insulin is the 4th most expensive liquid in the world.
